Gulachi Poli is a special dish for makar sankranti made out of stuffed jaggery and wheat flour, topped with dried shredded coconut.It is a special dish prepared during Makar sankranthi


Ingredients

For Stuffing :

  1. 2 cup grated Gur (Jaggery)

  2. 1/4 cup dried shredded Coconut

  3. 1/4 cup ground Peanuts

  4. 1/2 cup ground Sesame Seeds

  5. 1 tbs Poppy Seeds

  6. 1/2 cup Besan

  7. 1 tsp Cardamom Powder

  8. Salt to taste

  9. Oil as needed

For Cover:

  1. 3 cup Wheat Flour

  2. Salt to taste

  3. Oil as needed

Step By Step Method

    • Fry shredded coconut & poppy seeds separately till they develop a pinkish hue.

    • Once it cool. Grind both and keep aside.

    • In a frypan , fry besan till it turns light brown.

    • Remove the pan from gas then add jaggery, coconut, poppy seed powder, cardamom powder, sesame seeds. Add small amount of salt and Mix it well.

    • Now knead a dough with wheat flour and a slight touch of oil and keep aside for few minutes.

    • To start with poli knead a dough smoother than normal (previous one) using water.

    • Now make even size small balls of the dough. Then roll each of them into a round shape of just 2 inch in diameter.

    • Also roll the mixture of sesame, coconut , jaggery etc. into a round shape (smaller than dough roll ). Make sure this mixture is smooth enough to roll and fill in rolled dough.

    • Close it from all sides forming a ball. Then start rolling the ball and prepare a normal size poli of that.

    • Heat the Tawa on medium gas and put this poly on it. Roast it like a normal poli/chapati.

    • Once both sides are cooked remove it and keep each poli on a separate paper(not on the dish ). Allow it to cool down so that it takes it's tough texture.
