Chunky fat,succulent pieces of fish cooked gently in "Jhol" or fish curry sauce with vegetables . Great with Hot rice.


Fish pieces -3-4 (Rohu/Catla preferred) Mustard oil - 3 to 4 table spoons Panch phoron (Bengali whole spice mix) -1 table spoon Potatoes - 2 medium Cauli flower -6-7 large pieces Red chilli powder -1/2 t spoon Turmeric powder -1 t spoon Dry red chillies -3 to 4 Bay leaves -2 Sugar -1/2 t spoon Salt to taste Fresh Coriander leaves

Step By Step Method

  • 1. Take fish pieces in a clean mixing bowl.Apply turmeric power nicely on both sides and rub with salt as required and set aside. Boil the potatoes and cauli flower and keep ready. Parallelly cook rice.(Basmati or Kolam rice) 2. Take 1 table spoon mustard oil to a non stick frying pan and get it to high heat and add fish pieces. Fry on one side and gently keep moving the pieces so they do not stick at all. After done or may be after a minute flip and fry on other side.Remove pieces and set aside 3. To the same left over oil add 2 more table spoon of mustard oil , reduce to medium heat and add panch phoron spices, bay leaves,crushed red chillies and little turmeric powder. Then add ginger paste, potatoes,cauli flower pieces,sugar and some salt and mix well. 4. Add 2 cups of water and continue cooking on medium heat for 6-7 minutes. Gently add the fish pieces and cook on low heat for 3-4 minutes. Check for salt and close the heat. 5. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander and serve with hot rice.
