South Indian homes and restaurants can never complete their menu without the popular Vanjaram Meen Varuval. Spicy meen varuval is a spicy fried fish, marinated with a blend of unique southern spices.


  • Fish - 250 gms.
  • Eggs - 1
  • Cornflour - 50 gms.
  • Maida - 30 gms.
  • Salt - as required
  • Chilly Powder - 10 gms.
  • Dhaniya Powder - 10 gms. 
  • Garam Masala Powder - 5 gms.
  • Lemon - 2
  • Ginger - 30 gms.
  • Garlic - 30 gms.
  • Green Chilly - 2
  • Oil - To deep fry about 400-500 ml.

Step By Step Method

  • Step 1. Cut the fish into Slices and marinate with Ginger Garlic paste, Lemon Juice and salt. Keep aside for half hour.

    Step 2. Now add eggs, Corn flour, Maida, Chilly Powder, Garam Masala, some Lemon Juice, Dhaniya Powder, Chopped Green Chilly to Marinate Fish. Mix properly and check the seasoning.

    Step 3.  Now heat oil in a kadhai and add all the pieces, one at a time. Fry till they are golden brown.

    Step 4. Remove the pieces with a perforated ladle and place them on the tissue paper to drain off excess oil

    Step 5. Serve Hot with Lemon wedges and Onion Slices.
